Coco’s Game-Winner Lifts Bentley Past No. 7 Stonehill, 2-1

EASTON, Mass. -- Freshman Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury School) scored the game-winner with 14 seconds left in the third quarter to give Bentley University a 2-1 win over Stonehill College, the number seven team in this week's NFHCA Division II coaches poll, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Friday night at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Bentley's first win over the Skyhawks since 2015 was its fourth straight and sixth in its last seven contests. The Falcons improved to 9-4 overall and 7-2 NE10 while the Skyhawks dropped to 10-4 overall (8-3 NE10).

Coco's third of the season came on a drive from the center of the circle following a Stonehill turnover. It was only about two-and-a-half minutes after Stonehill junior Madi Weber (Walpole) scored her team's only goal of the night.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead when junior Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS) scored in the fourth minute of the second period.  She knocked the ball into the cage following a deflection by a defender. The goal was her second of the season.

Junior Madison Clark (Natick/Natick HS) recorded six saves for Bentley in goal as she won for the sixth time in seven starts. For Stonehill, senior Abigail Campbell (Norfolk) made four saves.

Shots favored the home team, 17-10, but Bentley had the advantage in penalty corners, 6-4.

Bentley will be back at home Sunday for a 1 pm Senior Day game against Molloy College.
