Slowe Gives Bentley 3-2 OT Win over Pace; Falcons Win for 6th Time in 8 Games

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Kate Slowe (Medfield/Medfield HS) delivered the game-winning goal with 5:38 remaining in the first overtime session to give Bentley University a 3-2 victory over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Friday afternoon on the Bentley Turf Field.

The victory was the sixth in the last eight games for the Falcons and boosted Bentley to 7-4 on the year, including 5-2 in the NE10. Pace dropped to 7-5 overall and 5-4 conference.

The Falcons twice came from a goal down before Slowe's second of the season secured the sudden victory. After her first shot was denied by Setter goalkeeper Grace Henderson (South Australia) on a diving save, a rebound shot by Slowe went off a defender and into the cage for the win.

Although Bentley had the majority of the scoring opportunities, Pace maintained a 1-0 lead through three periods as a result of a successful penalty stroke by junior Cienna Bosher (Blackwood, N.J.) in the seventh minute.

There were three goals scored in the fourth, beginning with an equalizer from Bentley sophomore forward Katie Thies (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse HS), her fifth of the season 45 seconds into the final stanza.

Pace reclaimed the lead with 5:54 remaining in regulation with the goal from freshman Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y.) her ninth of the season. The one-goal advantage lasted less than two minutes, with Bentley junior Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Academy) knotting the score at two apiece with 4:10 left on the fourth period clock. Off a corner, she redirected a shot from sophomore Abigail Hewes (Denmark, Maine/Fryeburg Academy), lifting it into the top of the cage. Like Thies, she shares the team lead with five goals.

Junior Madison Clark (Natick/Natick HS) made three saves for Bentley while improving to 3-1 during her four starts. Henderson recorded seven stops for the Setters.

Bentley finished with a 17-8 shot advantage and was awarded 11 penalty corners, three more than the visitors.

Next up for the Falcons is a home game against Southern Connecticut State Tuesday at 6 pm.
