Assumption Pulls Away in 4th for 5-1 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Isabel Primack (Ipswich) scored twice and also recorded an assist as Assumption University, the seventh-ranked team in Division II, defeated Bentley University, 5-1, in college field hockey action Wednesday evening on the Bentley Turf Field. Fortunately for the Falcons, the game between Northeast-10 foes was considered a non-conference contest.

Bentley, after controlling play in the third quarter, was in the game heading into the final stanza, but gave up three unanswered goals in the fourth. They were scored in a span of just over four minutes with Primack netting the first two and freshman Mia Salah (Gloucester) completing the scoring with 7:46 to play.

Assumption opened a 2-0 lead on goals by Deidre Burchill at 3:36 of the first and Lucy Malia at 5:07 of the third. Bentley finally got on the scoreboard with 2:47 remaining in the third, with junior Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Acad.) driving the ball into the net following an Assumption save.

Despite scoring only once, Bentley controlled the action in the third period, with a 10-4 advantage in both shots and penalty corners. The story was different the rest of the game with the Hounds owning a 8-5 edge in shots and the Falcons having a slight edge in corners, 9-7.

Senior Kyle Gargiulo (Madison, Conn.) earned the win for Assumption with five saves.

Bentley will go on the road for the first time and will open its Northeast-10 schedule Saturday afternoon at 1 pm at Mercy College.
