Anderson, Pavano Help Bentley Secure NE10 Postseason Berth with 3-0 Win at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS), playing her final career regular season game only miles from her home, scored two fourth-quarter goals after classmate Tess Anderson (Stow, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) had staked Bentley University to a 1-0 lead earlier in the game, and the Falcons went to post a 3-0 win over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Friday night on Charger Field.

The win secured a berth for the Falcons in the NE10 Championships, which begin on Tuesday. Bentley evened its records at 9-9 overall and 7-7 NE10 while New Haven completed its season at 5-13 overall (5-9 conference).

Pavano tacked on insurance in the fourth, with her fourth of the season coming with 10:39 to play and her fifth with 6:30 remaining. Her first goal was assisted by senior Abby Adams (Longmeadow/ Longmeadow HS).

Sophomore Kayleigh Vogel (Greenland, N.H./Portsmouth HS) was credited with her second shutout of the season despite not having to make a save. New Haven had seven shots and five penalty corners, but didn't put any on net.

Bentley had 11 shots, including five on goal, and two penalty corners.
