14 Members of Bentley Field Hockey Team Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad

WALTHAM, Mass. – Fourteen members of the 2016 Bentley University field hockey team, including senior defender and tri-captain Tori Castro (Winchester/Winchester HS), were named to the 2016-17 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Castro, an honoree for the fourth time, was one of six Falcons who had previously earned National Academic Squad recognition. Junior forward Katie Quilty (Marstons Mills/Barnstable HS) and junior midfielder Rebecca Schroder (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) were recognized for the third time while sophomores Jackie Martin (Canton/Canton HS) and Frankie Tossona (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn HS) were saluted for the second time, as was junior Claire Virkler (Clifton Park, N.Y./ Shenendehowa HS).

The above six were joined by junior Taylor Kane (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS), sophomores Mikayla Ullrich (Montclair, N.J./Montclair HS) and Morgan Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y./ Shenendehowa HS), and freshmen Abby Adams (Longmeadow/Longmeadow HS), Keally Ingersoll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge HS), Christa Knell (Watertown/Watertown HS), Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan HS) and Ashley Scholten (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield HS).

The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semesters of the 2016-17 academic year. Bentley's 14 honorees was tied for the third most amongst Northeast-10 Conference teams.

Six of Bentley's honorees started at least 13 games last fall: Castro, Ingersoll, Kane, Knell, Tossona and Ullirich.

Quilty and Tossona were previously named to the Academic All-Northeast-10 field hockey team.
