Pavano Selected as Northeast-10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – After helping Bentley University pull out an overtime victory on Saturday, freshman midfielder Sam Pavano (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) is this week's choice for Field Hockey Rookie of the Week honors in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Pavano had a goal and an assist in the final five minutes of regulation as the Falcons overcame a two-goal deficit and went on to top St. Michael's College in overtime, 4-3. She drove home her fourth goal of the season off a penalty corner with 4:56 left and had the game-tying assist with 2:43 remaining to square the score at three goals apiece.

Pavano, who had missed Bentley's other game last week due to injury, is second on the team in scoring, as well as tied for eighth in the NE-10, with four goals and four assists for 12 points.  Only three Division II freshmen have scored more goals than Pavano so far this season, and only two have more points.

Also recognized by the NE-10, with selection to the Weekly Honor Roll, was Bentley's leading scorer, senior midfielder Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS). She's scored in five straight games and is now tied for fifth in the conference in goals (six).

Ellis scored the game-winner about two minutes into overtime at St. Michael's, and finished a 1-1 week with two goals and one assist.

Bentley, 6-5 overall and 4-1 NE-10, will return to action Wednesday with a 7 pm home game against Saint Anselm College.
