Trio of Seniors Named Bentley Field Hockey Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. –Tori Castro (Winchester/Winchester HS), Tori Ellis (Madison, N.J./Madison HS) and Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS), a trio of seniors, have been named the captains of the 2016 Bentley University field hockey team, coach Jessica Spencer announced.

"The 2016 captains each bring their own unique leadership style and complement each other very well," said Spencer, who is beginning her ninth season as the head coach at her alma mater.

Castro, a midfielder/defender, has been in 43 games for the Falcons during her career, including 24 as a starter. Last fall, she played in 13 with six starts.

"Tori has been a very steady player for our team over the last three year," said Spencer. "She has the versatility to play both defense and midfield and leads by example".

Ellis has been honored by the Northeast-10 Conference following each of her first three seasons, earning second-team All-Conference honors the last two years after being the NE-10 Rookie of the Year in 2013. A full-time starter since midway through her freshman season, Ellis has been a factor at both ends with 22 points and 20 defensive saves in 55 career games.

"Since Tori has arrived at Bentley, she has been making an impact on the field," praised Spender. "Players look up to her and she plays with a passion that can be contagious."

Schaedel posted a 1.86 goals against average last fall while handling the goalkeeper duties in 13 games, including ten as a starter. Included were 1-0 shutouts against Franklin Pierce and LIU Post.

"Last fall, Evelyn was able to play some significant minutes in goal and that will help her lead defensive unit in 2016," commented Spencer.

Coming off a 9-9 season, Bentley opens the new campaign Sept. 1 with a 7 pm home game against Franklin Pierce. The first practice is scheduled for Wednesday evening.
