Merrimack Blanks Bentley, 3-0, in Battle of 9th-Ranked Teams

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Candace Waldie (North Andover) assisted on all three goals as Merrimack College bested visiting Bentley University, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday evening at Martone-Majail Field. The two teams entered the contest tied for ninth in this week's NFHCA Division II national coaches' poll.

The Warriors gave sophomore goalkeeper Madison Davis (San Jose, Calif.) the only goal she would need 16:07 into the opening half, with sophomore Taylor Ledwith (Springfield) netting her first of the season.

Merrimack (7-4, 3-1 NE-10) added to its lead in the 51st and 65th minutes, with goals from freshmen Maura Doyle (Merrimac) and Kaitlin McCauley (Newburyport).

The Warriors controlled play all night, outshooting the Falcons 20-5 and attempting all nine of the contest's nine penalty corners.

Davis finished with three saves while recording her second shutout of 2013. Bentley netminder Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS) had a busy game, recording eight saves.

Bentley, 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference, will return to action Saturday with an 11 am home encounter with unbeaten LIU Post.
