Lirange & Talerman Score as Bentley Posts 3rd Straight Shutout, 2-0 over Southern Connecticut

WALTHAM, Mass. – Goals from junior Gina Lirange (Auburn/Auburn HS) and sophomore Meghan Talerman (Centerville/Barnstable HS) during the first 11 minutes of the second half propelled Bentley University to its third straight shutout victory, 2-0 over Southern Connecticut State University in non-conference college field hockey Saturday afternoon at Bentley.

The shutout was recorded by sophomore Katie Kelley (Walpole/Walpole HS), who made four saves while remaining unscored upon in her last 21 minutes of action.

After a scoreless first half that saw Bentley outshoot the visiting Owls 12-3, Lirange netted her fifth of the year before the second stanza was 30 seconds old. Talerman sent the ball inside to sophomore Sally James (Mequon, Wisc./Univ. School of Milwaukee), who found an open Lirange on the other side of the cage.

Lirange, who assisted on Talerman's goal later in the game, had her third straight game with at least three points, a stretch in which she has five goals and an assist for 11 points.

Talerman's goal, with 24:25 left in the second, was her third of the season.

Sophomore Audrey Dolloff (Raynham) was credited with nine saves for Southern, which was outshot 25-5 overall.

Bentley, ranked eighth in Division II preseason, improved to 3-1 overall while Southern remained winless after three games. The Falcons are back in action Tuesday with a 4 pm non-conference match at St. Michael's.
