#5 West Chester Rallies Past #10 Bentley, 4-1; Sideris Scores Bentley’s Goal

WALTHAM, Mass. – In the season opener for both clubs, West Chester University scored three unanswered second-half goals to rally past Bentley University, 4-1, in non-conference women's field hockey action at Bentley Friday afternoon.

West Chester, which is making the move from Division I to Division II, entered the game with a number five ranking in the preseason Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II poll while Bentley was number ten.

Bentley controlled play early, with all three of its shots and two of its three penalty corners coming in the first 20 minutes. Included during the early flurry was the game's first goal, two-time All-Northeast-10 midfielder Stephanie Sideris (Watertown/Watertown HS) staking the Falcons to the lead in the sixth minute.

West Chester struck for the equalizer 40 seconds before the halftime break, with senior Brynn Adams (Lititz, Pa.) capitalizing off a penalty corner.

The second half was all Golden Rams, with the visitors from Pennsylvania outshooting the Falcons 14-0 after play resumed. West Chester broke the game open with three goals in less than 11 minutes, beginning with a tally by sophomore Kelsi Lykens (Mohrsville, Pa.) with 13:55 left.  That was followed by goals from senior Nicole Fiorilla (Downington, Pa.) and junior Kayla Gluchowski (Mountaintop, Pa.).

Junior Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) made nine saves for Bentley and Kristin Arnold (Coopersburg, Pa.) recorded two stops for West Chester.  The Falcons also received a defensive save from senior Tori Bergantino (Waltham/Waltham HS).

Both teams will be back on the same field Saturday afternoon. West Chester will face defending national champion UMass-Lowell at 1 pm and Bentley will take on Millersville University at 3:30 pm.
