10 Bentley Student-Athletes Named to NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Ten members of the Bentley University field hockey team were recently named to the 2010 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II National Academic Squad.

Heading the list was sophomore Beth Maguire (Medfield/Medfield HS), who was also named to the Academic All-Northeast-10 field hockey team. She led the team in scoring with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points, and has earned a 3.62 GPA as a computer information systems major.

Joining Maguire on the National Academic Squad were senior Kate Caponigro (Topsfield/ Masconomet Reg. HS), juniors Tori Bergantino (Waltham/Waltham HS) and Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS), sophomore Nicole Dion (Lunenburg/Lunenburg HS), Hannah Gerry (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS), Kelsey Mattson (Bristol, N.H./Newfound Reg. HS) and Kaitlyn Riley (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) and freshman Melissa Martorelli (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel HS) and Mollie Ricker (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin HS).

Bergantino is making her third appearance on the team, and Caponigro, Dion, Maguire, Mattson and Power were second-time honorees.

Of the ten Falcons who were recognized, seven were starters for coach Jessica King's team: Bergantino, Caponigro, Dion, Maguire, Mattson, Powell and Ricker.

The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the 2010-11 fall semester. Only six Division II institutions had more honorees than Bentley's ten.
