Maguire Hat Trick Propels Bentley Past St. Michael’s, 3-1, in Season Finale

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Forward Beth Maguire (Medfield/Medfield HS) completed her sophomore season in impressive fashion, recorded her first career hat trick to propel Bentley University to a 3-1 season-ending win over St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Wednesday night on the Bentley turf field.

Maguire's three goals gave her a team-leading dozen for the season, with three of the scores game-winners.

Maguire staked Bentley to the early lead, redirecting a shot from senior Haley Smith (Georgetown/Georgetown HS) into the cage in the game's ninth minute. She banged home a rebound of her own shot 2:44 before intermission, making it a 2-0 contest.

Maguire completed her hat trick three minutes into the second half, on a drive from just inside the circle.

St. Michael's (3=14, 1-8 NE-10 with one game left) spoiled the shutout bid of Bentley sophomore Julia Powell (Southington, Conn./Pomeraug HS) about midway through the second half. Senior Kaleigh Ferrari (Millbrook, N.Y.) found the back of the net from about 10 yards out for the Purple Knights.

Powell finished with eight saves and St. Michael's senior Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) turned away 11 Falcon shots. Bentley finished with a 19-13 shot advantage, but St. Michael's had three of the game's four penalty corners.

Bentley finished the season at 7-12 overall and 3-7 in the NE-10.
