Enaire Scores Twice as Undefeated UMass-Lowell Tops Bentley, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior Katie Enaire (Amesbury) scored her 20th and 21st goals of the season to lead undefeated UMass-Lowell, the second-ranked team in Division II, to its 18th straight win, 3-0 over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Tuesday evening on Bentley's turf field.

All the scoring came in the second half after the Falcons played the River Hawks to a standstill during the first 35 minutes. Enaire broke the scoreless deadlock 91 seconds into the second, using a reverse sweep to put the ball into the cage.

Senior Liz Day (North Andover) scored off a penalty corner in the 45th minute, and a little more than three minutes later, Enaire made it a 3-0 game when her shot was deflected into the goal by a Bentley defender. The three goals, in a span of about 12 minutes, matched the total number of goals that UMass-Lowell has allowed all season.

Bentley sophomore goalie Julie Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) made eight saves, including seven in the second half, and freshman Melanie Hopkins (Harwich) recorded six stops for UMass-Lowell en route to her 14th shutout of the year.

UMass-Lowell (18-0, 8-0 NE-10) outshot Bentley 26-7, including 15-3 in the second half, and had an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.

Bentley (6-11, 2-6 NE-10) is back at home on Saturday for a 1 pm meeting with American International College.
