Maguire Nets Only Goal as Bentley Edges St. Michael’s, 1-0

COLCHESTER, Vt. -- Sophomore Beth Maguire (Medfield, Mass./Medfield HS) scored her team-leading fourth goal with 11:36 left in the first half, propelling Bentley University to a 1-0 non-conference victory over St. Michael's College in college field hockey Saturday afternoon at Duffy Field.

Bentley's second straight victory lifted the Falcons to 2-4 on the season and left the Purple Knights with an identical record. While both are members of the Northeast-10, this one did not count in the conference standings.

Bentley, as a team, has scored seven times this season and Maguire has been involved in all but one with four goals and two assists. Following an entry pass from sophomore Nicole Dion (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg HS), Maguire netted the game's only goal out of a scramble in front of the St. Michael's net.

The shutout was the first career for sophomore Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS), who didn't have to make a save and saw her teammates outshoot the Purple Knights 13-2. Bentley also enjoyed a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was credited with seven saves for St. Michael's.

Bentley will be back in action Tuesday night with a 7:00 game at American International.
