Pedzik Gives Adelphi 2-1 OT Win over Bentley; Maguire Scores for Falcons

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior Natasha Pedzik (Patchogue, N.Y.) knocked in a loose ball for her first goal of the season with just 24 seconds left in the first overtime period, giving Adelphi University a 2-1 non-conference win over Bentley University in college field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

Fortunately for the Falcons, this one didn't count as the Northeast-10 standings as the two clubs will play their conference game on Oct. 30 on Long Island. Bentley, playing at home for the first time this fall, remained winless (0-4) while the Panthers improved to 2-3.

Adelphi had the lead for a good share of the contest after freshman Jamie Ackerman (Nesconset, N.Y.) found the net for the first time as a collegian in the 11th minute.

It remained a 1-0 game until the second-half clock was down to 13:33. Sophomore Beth Maguire (Medfield/Medfield HS) netted her second score of the season with senior Haley Smith (Georgetown/Georgetown HS) credited with the assist.

Bentley had the edge statistically, outshooting the visitors 18-16 and attempting four more penalty corners (10-6).

Sophomore Julia Powell (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS) made seven saves for Bentley while junior Lucia Vigliotti (Westbury, N.Y.) recorded 10 for Adelphi.

Bentley will back at home on Wednesday for a 7 pm non-conference matchup with Southern Connecticut State.
