Lopes scores twice during big Senior Day win over Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Abel Lopes Jr. caught two touchdown passes from Mark Waid, including an 84-yard connection, as the Bentley football team cruised to a 31-6 Senior Day win over Assumption Saturday afternoon. With one game left in the regular season, Bentley and New Haven are tied for first place in the Northeast-10 standings. The two teams go head-to-head in Connecticut, Nov. 11, for the NE10 crown.

Bentley set the tone against Assumption from the opening kickoff when Tajon Vassar's 41-yard return allowed the Falcons' first drive to start from the Greyhounds' 44-yard line. It took Bentley just six plays to reach the end zone when Waid hit Lopes for a 24-yard touchdown.

The Falcons held that 7-0 lead entering the second quarter, but then Waid connected with Rashon Bradford for an eight-yard touchdown early in the period. Bentley's knockout punch came just four minutes later when Lopes hauled in an 84-yard touchdown pass from Waid. The Falcons took a 24-0 lead into halftime.

Bentley's defense held the Greyhounds to 253 yards of total offense, and only 3.6 yards per play. Vassar intercepted two passes, giving him a conference-best five picks for the year. Bentley totaled five sacks against Assumption, led by Christian Lanzalotto's 1.5 sacks.

Waid completed 18 of 30 pass attempts for 256 yards, and he ran for a game-high 94 yards. Lopes totaled 127 receiving yards, while Nayvon Reid and Jake Tarentino both caught four passes.
