Bentley's defense stifles Southern Connecticut in 13-6 conference win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bentley football team nearly shutout Southern Connecticut State as the Falcons won their first conference game of the season, 13-6, on the road Saturday afternoon.

Brett Pullman scored the game's first touchdown, and Mason Campbell knocked two field goals in the win. The defense came away with two turnovers – interceptions by Rene Nunez and Tajon Vassar.

Bentley's second possession of the game started at its 30-yard line. Following a six-yard completion from Pullman to Abel Lopes, Jr., Vinnie Holmes accounted for the Falcons' next 25 yards on three consecutive plays. He had two rushes of five yards each, followed by a 15-yard reception.

Pullman completed a 15-yard pass to Jake Tarentino, followed by a 13-yard pass to Dylan Gordon down to the Owls' eight-yard line. Gordon took a handoff down just one yard shy of the goal line, and Pullman bulldozed his way into the end zone from there.

Campbell's field goals both came in the second quarter. The first was from 40 yards, and the latter was 29.

Southern Connecticut's lone points occurred on a 45-yard passing play with no time left on the clock in regulation.

Salvatore Lupoli Jr. tied his career-high mark in tackles with 15. It marked the fourth time in his collegiate career with 15 tackles in a game.

Holmes ran for 112 yards on 27 carries, marking his second consecutive game with more than 100 yards on the ground. He is the conference's leading rusher with 540 yards.

Bentley has a bye next week, and it continues its stretch of road games at St. Anselm, Oct. 7.
