WATERBURY, Conn. – Senior Vinnie Holmes had 260 yards on the ground and Bentley rushed for 334 yards overall as the Falcons defeated Post 40-13 on Saturday afternoon.

It's the first career win for new head coach Saj Thakkar.

Holmes' 260 yards is the third most rushing yards in a single game in program history and the most since Andy Breda ran for 266 on Nov. 16, 2002. Holmes broke an 81-yard run on the first play from scrimmage for his longest run of the game and he added a rushing TD in the 4th quarter.

Quarterback Mark Waid had an efficient day by going 22-34 (64.7 %) with three touchdown passes, to Abel Lopes Jr., Nayvon Reid and Rashon Bradford. He also carried the ball nine times for 51 yards with a rushing TD.

Holmes' 81-yard run on the first play set the tone for the afternoon. With the ball on their own nine-yard line after the opening kickoff, Holmes broke a run down the right sideline before he was finally tackled at the Post 10. One play later, Waid hit Bradford over the middle for a touchdown.

Bentley's defense forced Post to punt on their ensuing possession. A 68-yard punt by Post's Aden Caine was downed at the Bentley one yard line.

The Falcons' offense proceeded to grind out a 13-play, 99-yard drive that ended with Waid hitting Lopes Jr. for a 20-yard touchdown and a 13-0 lead.

Campbell knocked in a 33-yard field goal on Bentley's second possession of the 2nd quarter for a 16-0 lead.

Post got on the board with a one-yard TD pass from Simon Burkett to Joshua Tracey to cut Bentley's lead to 16-6 with 5:28 remaining before halftime.

On their next possession Bentley again went on a lengthy drive. This one was 14 plays that covered 56 yards and ended with a 29-yard Campbell field goal as time expired for a 19-6 lead at the break.

The Eagles started with the ball to begin the second half but after three plays faced a 4th and 13 and decided to punt. On the punt attempt by Caine, graduate student cornerback Mathieu Severance came through the left side and got his hand on it to send the ball out of bounds at the Post 27.

Four straight rushes by Holmes got the ball down to the one-yard line for a first and goal. On the next play Waid hit Reid for a short TD and after Campbell's PAT Bentley led 26-6.

Bentley led 26-13 at the start of the 4th quarter and scored twice to put the game away. An eight-play, 58-yard drive was finished with a one-yard TD run by Waid and a five-play, 44-yard drive saw Holmes power in from seven yards out for a TD.

Junior defensive end Tommy DeMatteo had a career-high three sacks, while graduate student cornerback Tajon Vassar had a 48-yard interception return. Sal Lupoli Jr. led the team with six tackles.

Bentley (1-2) plays its first NE10 game of the season next Saturday at Southern Connecticut.
