Late TD Gives West Chester 20-19 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – West Chester's Jayden Williams scored a seven-yard rushing touchdown with 44 seconds left in the game as the Golden Rams slipped past Bentley 20-19 on Saturday afternoon in the season opener.

The TD by Williams capped a four-play 71-yard drive in just 44 seconds for the Golden Rams that tied the score 19-19. The extra point was good to give West Chester its first lead of the afternoon.

Bentley then had the ball at its own 25-yard line with 53 seconds remaining after a touchback on the kickoff. However, three pass attempts by Falcons QB Mark Waid fell incomplete and West Chester hung on for the victory.

In the head coaching debut for new Falcons coach Saj Thakkar, his team jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter after a short TD pass by Waid to running back Vinnie Holmes with 3:59 left in the 1st quarter.

Bentley then took a 14-0 lead when Waid hit tight end Nayvon Reid in the end zone for a nine-yard score with 6:14 remaining in the second quarter.

West Chester got on the board just before halftime when West Chester QB Cooper Jordan hit Thatcher Miles for an eight-yard TD to make it 14-7.

The Falcons extended their lead to 19-10 in the third quarter with a field goal by Mason Campbell and a safety off the ensuing kickoff.

But West Chester chipped away at the lead with a field goal with 9:14 left in the 4th to make it a 19-13 game. A 13-play drive by Bentley on its next possession didn't yield any points and West Chester got the ball back on its own 29 with 1:37 remaining.

A 45-yard completion by Jordan to D'Shaun Seals set up them in Bentley territory, and then a 24-yard completion to Jonathan Haynes got them to the seven yard line. That set up Williams' winning TD run.

Waid finished the game with 120 passing yards and 57 rushing yards. Holmes 66 rushing yards on 18 carries

For the Golden Rams, Cooper finished with 299 passing yards and 76 rushing yards.
