Pullman Sparks Bentley to Season-Ending 18-10 Double-OT Win at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior QB Brett Pullman (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name HS) threw a 25-yard pass to senior Noah Neville (Boston, Mass./Newton North HS) on the first play of the second overtime and also connected with Neville on a two-point conversion try to give Bentley University a come-from-behind 18-10 win over Pace University Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference football at Pace Stadium.

Pullman, who was inserted into the game with 3:25 left in regulation and the Falcons down 10-3, completed a game-tying 78-yard TD pass to senior Abel Lopes Jr. (Scituate, Mass./Scituate HS) on his second play of scrimmage.

Bentley's first OT win since 2017 completed a 7-3 season for coach Alvin Reynolds' in his first season at the helm, including 5-2 NE10. It's the first time since 2001-05 that the Falcons have won at least seven games in successive seasons.

After the Falcons evened the score at 10-all, Pace drove to the Bentley 31 and had a fourth-and-one. Reynolds' defense, the stingiest in Division II in point allowed, came up with the stop and the Falcons regained the ball with 1:08 to play.

Pace senior Andrew Holmes (Minehill, N.J.) intercepted Pullman and returned the ball to the Bentley 30. However, two penalties were assessed on the play (roughing the passer, unsportsmanlike conduct), the pick was negated and the ball returned to the Falcons for the final two plays of regulation.

After Pullman gave his team in OT, the Falcons limited Pace to a short run and three incompletions to close out the victory.

Before Pullman's OT heroics, both teams missed a field goal in the first extra session, Pace a 41-yarder and Bentley a 36 yarder.

Bentley led 3-0 at the half following a Bentley varsity record 48-yard field goal by junior Mason Campbell (Tampa, Fla./Barron Collier HS). It equaled the program record, set back in 1982 by Doug Tirrell, when the Falcons were competing at the club level.

Bentley had several chances to add to that lead in the first half but came up empty twice when inside the Setter five. There were 14 snaps in the redzone with four penalties, including a false start from the one, and a lost fumble.

Pace evened the game at 3-3 when junior Dylan Squillacioti (Kings Park, N.Y.) drilled a 45-yard field goal midway through the third quarter.

On their next possession, the Setters moved 91 yards on 15 plays with graduate QB Carlton Aiken (Gibbstown, N.J.) finishing the drive and making it a 10-3 game with a two-yard keeper with 12:26 on the fourth-quarter clock.

Due in large part to three big plays, Bentley had a 365-333 advantage in total offense. Pace ran more plays (78-54), had more first downs (22-14) and had the ball for over 37 minutes.

For Bentley, senior Nate Larkins (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn HS) had a 52-yard run (he finished with 91) and graduate transfer Mark Waid (Cortland, Ohio/Girard HS) threw a 69-yard pass to sophomore Isaiah Decias (Ozone Park, N.Y./Hudson Catholic HS).

Pullman finished three of seven for 113 yards in his limited playing time.

Defensively for the Falcons, NE10 tackle leader Salvatore Lupoli (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) added 14 to his total and junior d-tackle Herve Tshibamba (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck HS) had 12 stops.
