On This Day, 2003: Bentley Explodes for School Record 37 1st-Quarter Points in 51-20 Win over Bryant

On October 4, 2003, the Bentley Falcons erupted for a school record 37 points in the opening quarter at Bryant and went on to post a convincing 51-20 road win over the Bulldogs.

The explosive opening stanza saw junior QB Marc Eddy throw two TD passes and four different Falcons reach the end zone, including senior tailback Andrew Breda twice.

Sixteen of the 37 points came following errant punt snaps by the Bulldogs. Breda scored the game's first TD, running the ball in from the two immediately after freshman Mike Scully recovered the loose ball. After the Falcon D forced a three-and-out, the ensuing punt snap went through the end zone for a safety and a 9-0 lead.

The first quarter scoring also included a Breda four-yard run, a one-yard run by sophomore Brie-El Parker following another Scully special teams recovery (this one at the four), a six-yard reception by junior Russ Bonilla and a nine-yard TD catch by junior wide receiver Dallas Mall.

Eddy, who ran for a one-yard score during a 14-point third quarter, finished 17 of 28 for 174 yards. Breda was the Falcons' leading rusher with 118 yard on 17 carries.

In addition to the two fumble recoveries by Scully, sophomore Mike Malvesti recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone for a touchdown in the third.

The Falcons outgained the Bulldogs 381-210 and forced five turnovers while improving to 5-0.
