On This Day, 2009: Johnson Shines as Bentley Improves to 5-0 with 30-20 Win over AIC

On September 25, 2009, the Bentley Falcons improved to 5-0 by outscoring American International College 17-7 in the fourth quarter for a 30-20 victory under the home Friday night lights.

Junior quarterback Bryant Johnson was impressive for the Falcons as he completed 27 of 48 aerials for 246 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-clinching five yarder to junior tight end Mike Slattery. He also led the team in rushing, gaining 72 yards on five carries, including a long gain of 43 yards.

With the score knotted at 20, Bentley took the lead for good on a 33-yard field goal by senior Tyler McNamara with 6:13 to play. The drive included two completions by Johnson, as well as a 31-yard scamper to the Yellow Jacket 24.

Sophomore Sal Ruffino had a during on an AIC three-and-out, and after a short punt, Bentley took over possession at the AIC 35 with 4:33 to play. Johnson used up nearly two-and-a-half minutes of clock time before making it a two-possession game with his second TD pass of the contest.

Senior linebacker Matt Zahoruiko led the defense with 12 tackles, Brad Poirier recovered a fumble and both junior Liam Regan and senior Chris Carroll had interceptions for the Falcons.
