Boylan To Attend National Football Foundation’s Campbell Trophy® Summit at Stanford

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University linebacker Rogers Boylan (Dover/Dover-Sherborn Reg. HS), a Magna Cum Laude graduate this past May, will attend the Second Annual National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy® Summit, sponsored by Intuit, Inc., at Stanford University Aug. 22-25.

Boylan was invited as a previous nominee for the William V. Campbell Trophy®. He'll be one of more than 100 who'll be attending the prestigious event.

Boylan, an economics-finance major who closed out his four years at Bentley with three straight appearances on the President's List, played in 34 career games for the Falcons. His career totals included 94 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss.

The 2018 event will provide a powerful opportunity for recent graduates to interact and learn from many of the nation's top entrepreneurs and Silicon Valley CEOs about the lessons that have guided them to the highest levels of success. The event will also include a career expo with more than a dozen companies on site recruiting the attendees. Organized as a tribute to the late Bill Campbell, the award's namesake, the event serves as a vehicle for the many leaders impacted by Campbell to pass on his insights for leadership and personal growth to the next generation.

"Bill was absolutely passionate about [football], and he believed deeply in what you learned from playing the game," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "He never, never took his foot off the accelerator in talking about the benefits of the game. So, we are really thankful that Intuit has stepped forward to fund the summit for a second year as a tribute to Bill's legacy of mentoring. We received such phenomenal feedback from the participants about all they learned last year that we are really excited to build on that momentum and their experiences."

Campbell, who played and coached at Columbia before a switch to the business world, became one of the most influential individuals in Silicon Valley as CEO and Chairman of Intuit and a board member of Apple and Google. He developed a unique reputation, earning the moniker as the "Coach of Silcom Valley" for using the lessons of the gridiron as he mentored Steve Jobs of Apple, Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt of Google, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Scott Cook and Brad Smith of Intuit and countless others.

"Bill most of all wanted us to pay it forward, and that's why I am here today," said Smith, the current CEO and chairman at Intuit, as he addressed attendees at the 2017 event. "No matter what role you have, Bill believed your responsibility is to serve others. He did not believe you could separate your personal life from your professional life. He saw it as two sides of the same coin. He coached the whole person."

This year's attendees will travel from more than 35 states and the District of Columbia, representing 79 colleges and universities from all divisions, and their current careers range from doctors, engineers, lawyers, physicists, and business and civic leaders. GSV Asset Management Senior Advisor Mark Flynn, a former linebacker at Saint John's (Minn.) who was a volunteer coach for an eighth-grade boys-and-girls' flag-football team with Campbell, played the lead role in organizing last year's event, and he has taken on the task again this year.

"Bill inspired a number of us, and all he ever asked was that we passed on, from one generation to the next, his values," said Flynn. "He had us commit to mentoring this next generation. We decided to gather really bright, talented people who have been part of this Campbell Trophy, saying let's gather for three or four days to develop tomorrow's leaders. It was unbelievable how people would make time and change their schedule to be part of Bill's legacy... We are here to create a living legacy to Bill Campbell, and all of the scholar-athletes are in the Campbell Trophy fraternity for life."

Expanding from three to four days, the 2018 event adds a career expo, several team building activities, a physical competition dubbed the "Summit Triathlon," and a dinner cruise of San Francisco Bay. The panels will cover a wide range of topics designed to foster leadership, personal growth and the career development of the attendees. The sessions this year include a Hall of Fame panel with Ronnie Lott (USC) and Steve Young (BYU); a workshop with Liz Wiseman, the author of New York Times bestseller "Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter;" and a discussion with Astro Teller, an entrepreneur, scientist, author and the Captain of Moonshots & CEO of Google X.

Companies participating in the career expo include Altamont Capital, Bank of America, Chegg, Enjoy, EY, Google, Intuit, the Knight-Hennessey Scholars at Stanford, McDermott Will & Emery, Snap! Raise, SoFi, SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, WeDriveU and the XFL as well as professionals from the medical and real state fields and several entrepreneurs from a diverse range of emerging companies.

"The Campbell Trophy Summit was an experience unlike anything I have been a part," said Drew Butler, a 2011 Campbell Trophy® finalist from Georgia, after attending the event in 2017. "Traveling to Stanford University, meeting with some of Silicon Valley's top leaders, and touring the campuses of Facebook, Google and Intuit was amazing... I learned something from every speaker, whether it was life advice, business advice, or a quote to remember."

All accommodations and meals are provided at no charge for the attendees, and first-time attendees who need assistance receive a $400 travel stipend.
