Athy, Sturm Gain Northeast-10 Weekly Honors for Efforts against New Haven

WALTHAM, Mass. – After helping the Bentley University football team to an overtime win over the University of New Haven Saturday, junior safety Nick Athy (Holliston/Holliston HS) and freshman quarterback Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS) have received weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference.

Athy was named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week for the second time, becoming the first multiple winner of the award in the conference this season, and Sturm was recognized as the NE10 Rookie of the Week for the third straight week.

Both awards have gone to Bentley student-athletes on a regular basis this fall. A Falcon has been recognized as the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week in four of nine weeks, and the Falcons have produced the Rookie of the Week six times.

Athy made a game-high 11 tackles, including a sack, and also forced and recovered a fumble. He leads the Falcons in tackles (65) and has had a penchant for coming up with the football with four fumble recoveries, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Nationally, he's tied for second in Division II in recoveries.

Sturm completed better than 75 percent of his passes for the third straight game, finishing 28 of 36 for 267 yards, one TD and two interceptions. His season accuracy rate is .743 and he has thrown for eight touchdowns.

Also recognized by the conference, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, were sophomore kicker Grant Buchanan (Holliston/Holliston HS) and senior linebacker Aaron Chretien (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Northern HS).

Buchanan kicked his two longest field goals of the season, including a career-best 39-yarder to give the Falcons the walk-off win in the first overtime. He was also 3-for-3 on point after kicks and totaled nine points.

Chretien recovered a fumble for a touchdown, made a sack and totaled eight tackles.

Bentley, 5-4, will close out its season this Saturday at Assumption College.
