Ryan & Sturm Named Northeast-10 co-Rookies of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – After putting on an offensive show against Southern Connecticut State Saturday, Bentley University freshmen Austin Ryan (Foxborough/Foxborough HS) and Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS) have been named the co-Rookies of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Ryan, a wide receiver, was honored for the third time this season while Sturm, a quarterback, was recognized for the second straight week.

Against the Owls in the 45-42 loss, Ryan caught six passes for 209 yards, the fifth highest single game total in program history, and three touchdowns. The TDs covered 45, 35 and 69 yards, and each cut a 10-point deficit to three points.

Ryan eclipsed 1,000 all-purpose yards for the season and moved to within 134 yards of reaching 1,000 in receiving. The leading receiver in the NE10 has 11 TD catches and his average of 26.2 yards per reception is the second best figure nationally in Division II.

Sturm threw for two touchdowns, ran for two more, amassed 356 yards total offense and completed 19 of 24 passes for 313 yards without an interception. His TD passes were of 45 and 69 yards, and his scoring runs covered 33 and 4 yards.

The lefty has started the last two games, completing 41 of 52 (79 percent) for 556 yards and an efficiency rating over 200. For the season, in five appearances, he owns a .726 completion percentage, 720 passing yards and seven TDs.

Bentley, 4-4 overall and 4-3 NE10, will complete its home schedule Saturday against the University of New Haven.
