Boston Herald: "Bentley wins turnover battle, drops LIU Post"

Following the Falcons' big Homecoming win over then No. 9 LIU Post Saturday, the Boston Herald's John Connolly caught up with Bentley head coach John Connolly. Here's his article from Monday's paper and online at www.bostonherald.com.

Coaches love to win the takeaway battle. It usually brings good things. Bentley followed the script Saturday, creating six turnovers to stun No. 9 LIU Post, 40-21. The Falcons' strong showing came a week after posting five takeaways in a win over Merrimack. Bentley (3-1, 3-0 Northeast-10) has now won three straight games and take on Pace (2-2, 1-2) next week in New York.

Both the offense and defense were in harmony for Bentley as senior quarterback Mack Lowrie (18-of-28, 255 yards) threw five touchdown passes, including three to freshman receiver Austin Ryan (107 yards) of Foxboro. Lowrie's scoring connections were for 7, 20, 22, 29 and 56 yards.

On the opposite side of the ball, junior safety Nick Athy of Holliston was immense with two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, a pass break-up and eight tackles. Senior linebacker Brandon Brown provided support with a team-high 11 tackles.

Bentley coach Bill Kavanaugh said he isn't surprised that his club has been able to continue to win the turnover battle.
