Ryan Named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman wide receiver Austin Ryan (Foxborough/ Foxborough HS) has been named the Football Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following his outstanding performance in the Falcons' 50-14 win over Saint Anselm College Friday night.

Ryan amassed 199 all-purpose yards and also scored two touchdowns (23, 35 yards). He finished with five receptions for 152 yards (a 30.4 average), 11 yards on the ground in his only carry, and two kickoff returns for 36 yards.

Following the first two games of his collegiate career, Ryan leads the NE10 in yards per reception (25.8) and is second in all-purpose running yards (175.5), a production level that is third nationally among Division II freshmen. He's also fifth in the conference receiving yards with an average of 103.

Also recognized by the conference this week, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, were quarterback Mack Lowrie (Foxborough/Roxbury Latin School), junior wide receiver Drew Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield Academy) and sophomore linebacker Andrew Carmichael (Wayland/Wayland HS).

Lowrie accounted for five touchdowns and 354 yards total offense before exiting the game midway through the 4th quarter. He completed 15 of 23 for 265 yards and four TDS (23, 4, 7, 35 yards) and ran the ball six times for 89 yards, including a 50-yarder for a TD.

Mahoney caught two TD passes, finishing with seven for 95 yards. He also had 41 return yards for a total of 133 all-purpose yards. Carmichael amassed 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and a tackle for loss (10 yards) as the Falcons limited the Hawks to about 200 yards total offense.

Bentley, 1-1 overall after winning its conference opener, is at Merrimack College Saturday afternoon.
