Buchanan Named Northeast-10 Football Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman placekicker Grant Buchanan (Holliston/ Holliston HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Football Rookie of the Week following his outstanding performance for the Falcons in Friday night's win over Merrimack College.

Buchanan split the uprights on two of his three field goal attempts and made all five of his point-after attempts for a total of 11 points in the 41-22 win. His made field goals covered 22 and 37 yards, and he missed from 43.

Buchanan has had a solid start to his freshman year as he leads the Falcons in scoring with 22 points. He's made all 13 of his extra-point kicks and has made three of five field goals while helping Bentley win two of three contests. Buchanan is tied for second in the NE-10 in points by kicking and only one NE-10 placekicker has more field goals made so far this season.

Also recognized by the Northeast-10 this week, with selection to the Weekly Honor Roll, were linebackers Bryan Hardy (Barnstable/Barnstable HS) and Brandon Brown (Oxon Hill, Md./Suitland HS).

Brown, a junior, intercepted a pass and returning it 35 yards to the end zone for the first of two Falcon pick-sixes. He also had three tackles, 1.5 TFL and half a sack in the victory.

Hardy, a senior with 241 career tackles, added a season-high 15 to his total with his effort against Merrimack. One of those was for a loss and he also was credited with a pass break-up on Brown's pick-six.

Bentley will be on the road this Saturday, making a visit to 3-0 LIU Post. Both clubs have won their first two conference games this season.
