They arrived at the unknown the same time. They knew the game, had played it at an elevated level in high school, but this was the next and mysterious step.

Andy Carmichael was the Dual Country League's Defensive Player of the Year, out of Wayland High. Nick Athy was the Tri Valley League MVP, out of Holliston. Unequivocally stars then.

Last year, they were Bentley University freshmen, beginning over at a place where high school credentials were just baubles.

"A whole different world," said Athy.
