Bentley Hosts Pace on Senior Day in Search of 2nd Straight Win

WALTHAM, Mass. – After excelling in all three phases of the game during a 38-7 win at Southern Connecticut State Saturday, the Bentley University Falcons will look to post consecutive victories for the first time in the Bill Kavanaugh era when they host Pace University Saturday at 1 pm in the final home game of the regular season.

It will be Senior Day for the Falcons with 22 members of this year's team scheduled to be honored during pre-game festivities. The 20 seniors and two graduate students, quarterback Danny Guadagnoli (Framingham/Framingham HS) and Alex Farkes (Boston/BB&N School), include 15 on the offensive side of the ball and seven defensive players.

On the offensive side, the Class of 2015 includes linemen Jack Donovan (Shrewsbury/ Worcester Academy) and Joe Morra (Oradell, N.J./River Dell HS); running backs Lorenzo Warren (Boston/Catholic Memorial HS) and Matt Guay (North Attleboro/Xaverian Bros. HS); and a slew of receivers: Obi Aribeana (Pompano Beach, Fla./Pine Crest HS), David Campagna (Kensington, Conn./Berlin HS), Nick Hession (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan HS), Jeff Hill (Mansfield/Mansfield HS), Jet Kollie (Lowell/New Hampton School), Drew Lloyd (Cary, N.C./Green Hope, N.C.), Chris Malonis (Dracut/Dracut HS), Adam Milton (Riverside, Conn./ Greenwich HS) and Brandon Parker (Amesbury/Pingree School).

Defensive players who'll be recognized are linebackers Blaine Hopwood (New Bedford/New Bedford HS), Evan Mattern (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS) and Kyle Young (Ellicott City, Md./ Centennial HS); defensive tackle Bob Richman (North Attleboro/North Attleboro HS); and defensive backs Will Coughlan (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Pine Crest HS), Brad Keirstead (Waltham/Waltham HS) and Nick McCarthy (Winthrop/Winthrop HS).

A number of those players were instrumental in Bentley's victory over Southern, one that ended a string of narrow losses (five straight by a total of 20 points). Guadagnoli threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Hill and one to Guay. Hill had his 13th 100-yard receiving game, finishing with 141 on seven receptions.

Both Guadagnoli and Hill achieved career milestones in the contest with the quarterback moving into second in program history in total offense (8,401) and the wide receiver reaching 200 points, 3,000 receiving yards and 3,000 all-purpose yards. Guadagnoli is on the brink of another as he's only 134 yards away from joining Marc Eddy '05 and Ted Larkin '01 on the list of Bentley QBs who have thrown for 8,000 yards.

Kollie was named the NE-10 Special Teams Player of the Week after amassing 229 all-purpose yards, including the second most prolific day in program history in returning punts. He brought back five for 142 yards, including a 40-yarder and a 74-yarder, both of which set up Falcon touchdowns.

Hopwood had eight tackles and Young had seven, including two sacks.  During the course of their careers, they've amassed 230 and 239 tackles, respectively. McCarthy and Donovan have played in every game during their four seasons, and Keirstead has been in all but one. Richman had also been an ironman before suffering a knee injury in week three this season.

Saturday's game at Southern Connecticut saw the Bentley defense record nine sacks, one more than it had in the season's first six games combined and the most for the Falcons since making 10 in the 2002 season opener against Saint Anselm. In that one, Kavanaugh, then a junior defensive lineman, led the team with 3.5 sacks.

Junior defensive end Paul Norris (North Attleboro/North Attleboro HS) nearly matched that Saturday as he made three for a total of 24 yards in losses. Over the last two weeks, he's had five sacks for 40 yards.

Pace will come into Waltham looking for its first win of the season. The Setters have been blanked in their last two games and are coming off a 33-0 loss to Stonehill. In the midst of building under first-year head coach Andrew Rondeau, they've given up 201 first-half points and have been outscored 345-111 overall.

Freshman Steven Demeo, one of three quarterbacks who have shared playing time, is listed as the starter for Saturday. He's been the most efficient of the three, completing 49 percent of his passes for 508 yards, four TDs and three interceptions.

Kyle Johnson is the team's leading receiver with 25 for 414 yards and four scores, and the top rusher has been Valentino Miles, with 189 yards and three TDs. Jhalen Bien-Aime leads Division II nationally in combined kick return yards (1,063) and his kickoff return average of 24.7 is the best in the Northeast-10, as his is average of 166.7 all-purpose yards.

Last year, Bentley extended its winning streak in the series to 11 games with a 56-13 victory over the Setters down in Pleasantville, N.Y., scoring 14 points in every quarter. Guadagnoli threw for four TDs and 303 yards, Hill caught four passes for 108 and two TDs, and Kollie had 266 yards in all-purpose running, including 181 on the ground in 12 carries. That set a school record for average gain per carry, 15.1.

All-time, Bentley leads the series, 12-3.

After Saturday, Bentley will have two games left before the Northeast-10 Championship Weekend, road contests at Assumption Nov. 1 and LIU Post Nov. 8.
