Guadagnoli among Nominees for the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University quarterback Danny Guadagnoli (Framingham/ Framingham HS), who broke the school records for passing yards and total offense in a season last fall, is one of 182 college football players from across the country who have been nominated for the 2014 Allstate Good Works Team, which is coordinated by the American Football Coaches Association. It's the second straight year that Guadagnoli has been nominated for the honor.

Since its establishment in 1992, the award has existed to pay tribute to the "good" in college football that extends beyond the wins and the losses. While balancing academics and athletics, this select group of student-athletes nominated by their respective colleges and universities has committed their limited free time to having a lasting impact on their communities.

"Year after year, the 'good works' associated with this impressive group of student-athletes continue to inspire and raise the bar for future nominees," said Jim Haskins, president of Allstate's West Territory and a member of the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® voting panel. "Allstate is proud to be a part of an award that recognizes the importance of giving back to the communities where we live, work and cheer on game day."

"It's great to see all the 'good works' these student-athletes are doing at their universities and in their communities," Grant Teaff, AFCA executive director said. "The AFCA is proud to work with Allstate in highlighting the record number of nominees sent in for the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®."

Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September. From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent college football media members will select the 2014 Good Works Team.®

Guadagnoli, who'll be a graduate student in the fall, and Bentley senior wide receiver Jeff Hill (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) were both named to the preseason All-Northeast-10 Conference team by the Beyond Sports Network.

Guadagnoli, in his second season as a starter, threw for 3,310 yards and 22 touchdowns last fall while completing 61 percent of his passes. He was also a threat to run, finishing with 335 yards and a team-best six rushing TDs.

Guadagnoli, a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 selection, will enter the season ranking in the top six in program history in passing yards (5,732), completions (411), TD passes (38) and total offense (6,324).

The six-foot-four Hill has been Guadagnoli's number one target the last two years with his 1,225 receiving yards last year the third highest total in Bentley history.  He caught 75 passes with a dozen of those finishing in the end zone.

Hill's resume includes 132 receptions, sixth most in school history, and he's number three all-time in both receiving yards (2,376) and TD catches (25). Nine of his touchdowns have gone for at least 40 yards and he has 10 career 100-yard receiving games, including six last fall.

Bentley opens its season Sept. 6 at home against Mercyhurst University.
