Arduino Runs for 4 TDs and Passes for Another as AIC Spoils Bentley's Homecoming, 42-14

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior quarterback Kevin Arduino (Cornwall, N.Y.) rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another as American International College spoiled Bentley University's Homecoming with a 42-14 win in Northeast-10 Conference football Saturday afternoon. The win was AIC's first on the Bentley field since 1999.

Arduino ran for 129 yards in only 13 carries with his touchdown runs covering 1, 30, 7 and 2 yards. He also threw for 222 yards and finished the day with 351 yards of total offense.

Bentley's offense featured the passing tandem of senior QB Danny Guadagnoli (Framingham/ Framingham HS) and junior Jeff Hill (Mansfield/Mansfield HS). Guadagnoli completed 22 of 36 passes for 279 yards, surpassing 4,000 for his career in the process, and Hill caught a career-high nine for 124 yards, including a 21-yarder for his 19th career TD reception.

The win, coupled with Stonehill's win at New Haven, lifted AIC into a three-way tie for first in the conference with the Yellow Jackets improving to 5-2 overall and 5-1 NE-10. Bentley slipped to .500 in the NE-10 at 3-3, and 4-3 overall.

A fumble on Bentley's opening possession set the stage for AIC's opening touchdown, a nine-yard run by sophomore Hunter Beckman (Shrewsbury). That finished a seven-play, 41-yard drive and gave the visitors a lead they would never relinquish.

AIC's next possession saw the Jackets move 90 yards in 11 plays with Arduino taking it in from the one on a third-down play.

Bentley cracked the scoreboard for the first time with 59.8 seconds left in the first half, Guadagnoli scoring from about the six-inch line to cut the AIC lead in half. He completed three of three passes for 45 yards on the drive, including a 24-yarder to junior Chris Malonis (Dracut/Dracut HS) to the Yellow Jacket seven.

AIC nearly struck again before intermission with a 44-yard pass from Arduino to freshman Evan Graham (Springfield) on the very first play after the kickoff moving the ball into the red zone. The Falcons were able to escape without further damage following an interception in the end zone from freshman Sam McDonald (Norfolk/King Phillip Reg. HS) on the final play before the halftime horn.

The second half was virtually all AIC with Bentley missing countless tackles on defense and holding the ball for only 9:17. The one bright spot was the TD pass from Guadagnoli to Hill as he found the wide receiver in the right corner of the end zone to cut the AIC lead to 21-14 with 8:37 left.

The Yellow Jackets broke the game wide open with two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the third with Arduino going up the middle from the seven and going deep to Graham for a 48-yard scoring strike two plays after a Falcon fumble.

AIC finished the afternoon with 25 first downs and 483 yards of total offense, with the Yellow Jackets averaging better than seven yards a play. Bentley amassed 383 yards, but was hurt by the two giveaways and an uncharacteristic ten penalties.

Bentley senior linebacker Taylor Tavarozzi (Berlin, Conn./Berlin HS) was the game's high tackler with ten.

It won't get any easier for the Falcon defense as Bentley visits high-scoring Merrimack College next Saturday, with kickoff set for 1 pm.
