Six Bentley Players Selected for All-Northeast-10 Football Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Five members of the 8-2 Bentley University Falcons have been selected to the All-Northeast-10 Conference football first team, including repeat honoree and left tackle Nick Halloran (Somerville/BB&N School).

Joining Halloran on the first team was sophomore wide receiver Jeff Hill (Mansfield/Mansfield HS) and three members of the Falcons' nationally-ranked defense: junior linebacker Blaine Hopwood (New Bedford/New Bedford HS), senior defensive end Matt Campo (Dedham/Catholic Memorial HS) and senior safety Steve Hopkins (Waltham/Waltham HS).

In addition, the All-Conference second team included Bentley senior wide receiver Bill Kiley (Quincy/Boston College HS).

Hill came within five of Bentley's first 1,000-yard receiving season since 2008, with his per-catch average of 19.5 yards the best in the conference. It was also the best by any Division II player nationally who was ranked in the top 25 in receiving yards per game. Ten of his 51 receptions resulted in touchdowns, and eight of those were for at least 28 yards.

Halloran, one of the team's captains, has been a three-year starter at tackle for Bentley after beginning his college career at Boston College. The six-foot-five, 295-pounder was a key factor in an offense that produced 388 yards and 26.3 points a game while controlling the ball for an average of 33 minutes a game.

The Bentley defense was one of the stingiest in Division II this season, giving up only 15.7 points and 275.5 yards a game while coming up with 24 takeaways and allowing just a 29 percent rate on third downs. The contributions of Hopwood, Hopkins and Campo played a significant role in that success.

Hopwood led the team in tackles with 74, despite missing two games due to injury, and also recorded two sacks, 6.5 tackles for losses, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.  His average of 9.3 tackles per game ranked sixth in the NE-10, and he also handled the Falcons' punting.

Hopkins was second to Hopkins in tackles with 51, and second to his brother Don in interceptions, with three, one of which he returned for a touchdown against Saint Anselm. In addition, he also recovered two fumbles and had 25 pass break-ups.

Campo had his finest season as a collegian as he gave the Falcons 45 tackles, including eight for losses and 5.5 sacks. In addition, he blocked two kicks, recovered two fumbles and had six quarterback hurries. The six-foot-five, 230-pounder also knocked down four passes.

Kiley finished with 29 catches for 446 yards and five touchdowns. His 30 points was fourth best on the team.
