Comeback bid falls short against Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four Falcons put forth multi-hit efforts, but the Bentley baseball team couldn't overcome a 7-1 deficit in its 7-5 loss against Assumption Friday afternoon.

The Falcons were down by six runs through six innings, but they chipped away and ended up having the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning.

Bentley's comeback bid started in the seventh inning, when Tyler Gonzalez led off by getting hit by a pitch. Jackson Walonis and Brian Lindsay loaded the bases by hitting consecutive singles. A wild pitch allowed Walonis to scamper home, and Nick Pappas' groundout allowed Walonis to score and make it a 7-3 three deficit.

Bentley added two more runs in the eighth inning. Eddy Beauregard led off with a walk, and he moved to third base on single by Tim Zupkus – coupled with an error in the outfield. Gonzalez lifted a sac fly that allowed Beauregard to score as Zupkus took third base. Pappas came through with another RBI, this time hitting a single to left field to plate Zupkus.

Brendan Sancaj led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a single, but he was left stranded on base.

Cory Bright, Zupkus, Walonis, and Lindsay finished the game with two hits, each.

Bentley celebrates its seniors Saturday, April 27, leading into a noon doubleheader against Saint Anselm.
