Heber earns complete-game victory at Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Pat Heber went the distance, while Nick Pappas and Brendan Sencaj both homered, to lead the Bentley baseball team to a 3-2 win at Southern Connecticut Saturday. The Falcons lost the second game, 2-1 (7 inn.).

Heber tossed the first nine-inning complete game of his collegiate career, allowing only seven hits and a walk in the Falcons' 3-2 win over the Owls. Heber has worked at least seven innings in each of his last three starts, and he has a 2.28 ERA during that stretch.

The teams were locked in a scoreless tie entering the eighth inning, but that's when Pappas put a crooked number on the scoreboard. Tommy Bolton reached base with a one-out single, and two batters later Pappas gave Bentley a 2-0 lead with one swing of the bat. It was his third home run of the season.

Sencaj provided a much-needed insurance run by belting a solo shot – his eighth home run of the season.

Pappas finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.

Matt Tyman put in a six-inning complete game effort, but the Falcons came up just one run short, 2-1, against the Owls. Tyman allowed only one earned run on four hits. He struck out six without issuing a walk.

Bentley's lone run came in the sixth inning. Sencaj hit a two-out double, and Steve Rizzuto immediately followed with a double of his own to plate Sencaj.

Sencaj finished the game 2-for-3, and Rizzuto went 1-for-2.

The Falcons remain in Connecticut Sunday, April 21, to take on New Haven for a doubleheader that starts at noon.
