Rizzuto drives in three runs, but Falcons drop doubleheader against SNHU

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley bullpen allowed only two earned runs in 7.0 innings between two games against Southern New Hampshire Sunday, but the Falcons lost both ends of a Northeast-10 doubleheader at home.

Bentley 3, SNHU 5

Brendan Sencaj went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Steve Rizzuto drove in a couple of runs, but the Falcons came up short in the first game Sunday, 5-3.

The Penmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, and they held that advantage until the Falcons plated a couple of runs in the fifth inning. Brian Lindsay led off the home half of the stanza with a single, and he came in to score on a triple hit by Tim Zupkus.

After Cory Bright was hit by a pitch, Rizzuto smacked an RBI single to left field.

The Falcons entered the bottom of the ninth in a 5-2 deficit, but they threatened to at least tie the game. Zupkus earned a two-out walk, and he moved into scoring position following a passed ball. Rene Nunez beat out an infield single to put runners on the corners, and Rizzuto drove Zupkus home with an infield single to the left side.

Eddie Beauregard then drew a walk to load the bases, but the game ended when SNHU induced a groundout.

Pitching out of the bullpen, Ryan Glupe worked 4.1 innings and allowed two runs while striking out four. Connor Gileau worked a quick 0.2 innings out of the 'pen.

Bentley 1, SNHU 4

Peter Heber went seven strong innings in his start of the second game Sunday, but Bentley was unable to piece together timely hitting in a 4-1 loss.

Heber allowed six hits and four runs, but he really found a grove after the third inning. Starting in the fourth, Heber retired 12 consecutive batters.

Jayden Longdin pitched two shutout innings in relief.

Bentley's lone run came in the sixth inning. Tyler Gonzalez led off with a single, and he moved into scoring position when Sencaj drew a walk. Rizzuto delivered once again with a runner in scoring position, this time belting a double to left-center field that allowed Gonzalez to easily score.

The Falcons and Penmen conclude their series in Waltham Monday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m.
