Gonzalez collects three hits, but eight-run rally by AIC dooms Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Marc Cedrone allowed just one run in a five inning start, and Tyler Gonzalez had a three-hit game from the leadoff spot, but the Bentley baseball team surrendered a five-run lead in a non-conference home loss against American International, 11-8, Wednesday afternoon. The game was called after eight innings to due darkness.

Cedrone surrendered just five hits against the Yellow Jackets. AIC scored a run on two hits in the first inning. In the following four innings, however, Cedrone allowed just three hits and kept AIC from adding a second run.

The Falcons plated three runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Gonzalez led off by reaching base on an error, and Tim Zupkus followed by drawing a walk. Brendan Sencaj scored Gonzalez with a single to center field, and Zupkus later came in to score on a passed ball. Later in the inning, Jackson Walonis dropped a perfect bunt to score Sencaj from third base.

Bentley held a 5-3 lead before adding three more runs in the sixth inning. Tommy Bolton and Joe Cacciatore drew consecutive walks to start the sixth. Gonzalez followed by hitting a single, and an error on the play allowed Bolton to score.

Cacciatore touched home plate on a passed ball, and an RBI single by Sencaj allowed Gonzalez to score for the second time.

Despite holding an 8-3 lead, Bentley surrendered eight runs in the eighth inning. The Falcons committed two errors during the Yellowjackets' decisive rally.

Gonzalez finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate, while Sencaj and Cacciatore both went 2-for-4.

Bentley returns to NE10 action with a three-game series at Franklin Pierce, March 29-30.
