Bentley's NE10 baseball season begins this weekend

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Northeast-10 season begins for the Bentley baseball team on the road this weekend when the Falcons take on American International Sunday, March 24, with a doubleheader that starts at noon. Saturday's doubleheader at St. Rose as has been postponed for a date TBD.

Sunshine statement

Bentley went 6-2 during its recent eight-game trip in Florida (March 8-15). The Falcons scored 10+ runs in five of those games, and held opponents to three or fewer runs in five games.

Bentley's big bats

The Falcons enter this weekend leading the NE10 in batting average (.332) and slugging percentage (.508). Bentley is also tied with Southern New Hampshire for the conference lead in on-base percentage (.431). The Falcons average 8.95 runs per game – which is the best mark in the conference.

Light work

Cory Bright leads in the NE10 in hitting with a .448 batting average. He also has a conference-best .560 on-base percentage. Bright has nine multi-hit performances this season, including a recent 4-for-4 game in a win over Caldwell (March 15). Bright was named the NE10 Player of the Week earlier this season (Feb. 26).

Swiping right

Hunter Smith has 13 stolen bases in 17 games this season. He is tied for the second most steals in the NE10. The last Falcon to swipe 20+ bags in a season was Sean Keady, who finished with 37 in 2013.

Knock 'em in

Steve Rizzuto and Brendan Sencaj both have 20 RBI this season – the third-best total in the NE10. Sencaj was named the NE10 Rookie of the Week earlier this month (March 11). His .788 slugging percentage is second in the NE10.

Hold the line

Steve Hardiman enters this weekend with a 2.00 ERA. His ERA ranks fourth in the NE10 among all pitchers with at least 20.0 IP. He is the only NE10 pitcher with multiple complete games this season (2).

Punch 'em out

Harper Flint is the only NE10 pitcher with at least 20 strikeouts in less than 14 innings pitched this season. Flint has worked 13.1 innings out of the bullpen, totaling 20 strikeouts for a 3-0 record.

Scouting AIC (4-13, 0-3 NE10)

The Yellow Jackets enter the weekend with six consecutive losses, allowing 10+ runs in four of those games. Jackson Haker's 4.04 batting average ranks fourth in the NE10, but the team's .261 batting average and .363 on-base percentage both rank eighth out of 12 teams. Still, the Yellow Jackets take advantage of their opportunities on the basepaths and lead the conference in stolen bases (45). On the point, the team's 8.11 ERA is the third-highest mark in the NE10.
