Rizzuto homers in season-opening win at Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Steve Rizzuto belted his 10th-career home run, and Pat Heber earned the win on the mound to lead the Bentley baseball team to a 7-3 win at Lynn in the 2024 season opener Friday.

The Falcons put pressure on Lynn from the start. Hunter Smith led off the top of the first with a single, and he promptly moved into scoring position by stealing second base. Tim Zupkus knocked a base hit to put runners on the corners, and Rizzuto lifted a sac fly to plate the game's first run.

After Eddy Beauregard drew a walk, Cory Bright hit an RBI single to score Zupkus and make it a 2-0 Bentley lead.

The Falcons piled on four runs in the third inning. Beauregard began the frame by getting hit by a pitch, and Bright followed with a single. Both runners moved up a base thanks to a sac bunt by Jackson Walonis. Joe Cacciatore took advantage of the opportunity and delivered a two-run single to centerfield.

Cacciatore found himself on third base following a groundout and a passed ball, and he scored on a base hit by Tommy Bolton. Smith and Zupkus hit consecutive to load the bases, and then Bolton came in to score on wild pitch.

Rizzuto launched his solo home run over the left field fence in the top of the sixth inning.

Heber worked 5.1 innings in his start, allowing only three hits and two earned runs. He struck out four.

Bentley takes on Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m.
