Rizzuto Helps Bentley Take Game 1; AIC Comes Back to Gain Split with Game 2 Win

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont/Belmont HS) had a two-run single during a five-run fifth inning and Bentley University went on to earn a game one win over American International, 7-4, in the opener of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader at DeFelice Field Sunday.

Game two was all AIC as the Yellow Jackets used a seven-RBI performance from sophomore designated hitter Josh Frometa (Holyoke) to gain the split, 19-5.

With Bentley down 4-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning of the seven-inning opener, graduate first baseman Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) walked and freshman shortstop Tommy Bolton (Tampa, Fla./Henry P. Blatt HS) walked. Sophomore left fielder Stan DeMartinis III (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs and Sears made it a one-run game when he scored on a balk.

An error allowed Bolton to score the tying run and DeMartinis III gave Bentley the lead when he trotted home on a wild pitch. The two-run single by Rizzuto pushed the Falcon advantage to three, 7-4.

Graduate right-hander Sean Mahan (Woburn/Matignon HS) earned the win with three innings of one-hit scoreless relief. He didn't issue a walk and struck out three.

Sears, two-for-three, had half of Bentley's four hits.

Game two saw the Yellow Jackets (7-16, 2-6 NE10) score multiple runs in five different innings. A two-run third was followed by three in the fifth, four in the sixth and five in each of the last two innings.

Frometa was outstanding from the leadoff spot and came within a single of the cycle. He hit a two-run homer to left in the third, a sacrifice fly in the fifth, a two-run double in the sixth and a two-run triple in the eighth.

Junior catcher Tyler Ziemak (Boynton Beach, Fla.) also had a big game for the Yellow Jackets with three hits and five RBI.

For Bentley, senior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Reg. HS) had a two-run single in the ninth.

Bentley had 13 hits in the nightcap, including two apiece by Bolton, DeMartinis III and junior second baseman Jackson Walonis (Walpole/Walpole HS).

After splitting the four-game series with AIC, Bentley owns records of 12-9 overall and 4-4 NE10.

Bentley will host Franklin Pierce in a four-game series next weekend with doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
