Pace Blanks Bentley in 1st of 3-Game Series

LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Senior Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y.) and freshman Robert Gilchrist (New Milford, Conn.) combined on a seven-hit shutout as Pace University blanked Bentley University, 4-0, in non-conference baseball at the Santaluces Athletic Center on Saturday. It was the first of a three-game weekend series between the two clubs.

Pace, after picking up an unearned run in the first, added two to its total in the third. Sophomore catcher Hunter Goldstein (Jericho, N.Y.) had an RBI single to center and graduate first baseman Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.H./North Salem HS) scored on a passed ball.

The Setters, 8-1, picked up an unearned insurance run in the seventh when graduate right fielder Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J.) scored on Bentley's fourth error of the afternoon.

Gleason yielded five hits over his seven innings of work and Gilchrist gave up two in his two innings out of the pen. Neither walked a batter with Gleason striking out seven and Gilchrist three.

Grad student and righthander Sean Mahan (Woburn, Mass./Matignon HS) gave Bentley five quality innings of relief as he allowed only three hits and one unearned run.

Senior catcher Brian Lindsay (New Durham, N.H./Kingswood Reg. HS) had three hits for Bentley and senior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett Reg. HS) had two, raising his batting average to .538.

Bentley, 5-2, and Pace will continue their series with a noon start on Sunday.
