Assumption Uses 15-Hit Attack to Defeat Bentley, 9-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Six different Greyhounds had two hits as Assumption University posted a 9-2 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference baseball Friday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

The Hounds (17-11, 10-3 NE10) took the early lead with junior right fielder Emilio Arcosta (Cromwell, Conn.) involved in both first-inning runs. He had an RBI triple to center and scored on a single to right by freshman center fielder Cody Smith (Holden, Mass.).

Assumption broke the game open with a five-run fourth making it 7-2. The inning included a two-run double by senior shortstop Jake Hamel (Uxbridge) and a two-run single by sophomore second baseman Jack Barry (Bridgewater).

Seven runs was more than enough for Assumption senior right-hander Patrick Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) who authored a four-hit shutout for his fourth win of the season. He retired 18 of the first 19 batters he faced, did not issue a walk and struck out seven.

Junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Reg. HS) was involved in both Bentley runs. He singled and scored in the second and picked up an RBI on a ground out in the seventh.

Bentley (8-18, 3-8 NE10) received a strong relief performance from freshman Connor Gileau (Berlin, Conn./Berlin HS). He pitched five innings and allowed just four hits and two runs. Gileau, a second-generation Bentley baseball player, retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced before giving up two runs in his final inning of work.

The two teams will be back at DeFelice Field Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
