Saint Anselm Comes From Behind Twice to Sweep Bentley, 6-4 and 8-6

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Reg. HS) had three hits and two RBI, but Saint Anselm College came from behind in both games to sweep the Falcons, 6-4 and 8-6, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball Saturday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

Game one saw Bentley score three times in the fourth to go take a 4-3 lead. Senior right fielder Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) had an RBI double to left, sophomore second baseman Tyler Gonzalez (Windham, N.H./ Lawrence Academy) had an RBI single to tie the game and Gonzalez scored the go-ahead run on an infield single by junior third baseman Cory Bright (Melrose/Bishop Fenwick HS).

Saint Anselm answered back in its next at bat with the tying run scoring on a bases-loaded walk. Later in the inning, what proved to be the winning run came home when senior first baseman Kyle Maurice (Exeter, N.H.) was forced in after sophomore designated hitter Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Both teams had six hits with the only players with more than one being Beauregard and Saint Anselm junior catcher Mike Borrelli (Salisbury). Each was two-for-three.

Graduate lefty Jared Brooks (Hollis Center, Maine/Cheverus HS) struck out eight for Bentley in his six innings of work.

In the nightcap, Bentley scored three times in the third to erase a 3-0 Hawk lead. Sophomore Jackson Walonis (Walpole/Walpole HS) had an RBI double to right and Beauregard had a two-run, two-out single to left.

The Falcons (5-17, 0-7 NE10) took a 6-3 lead in the fifth without benefit of a hit. With the bases full, Sears was hit by a pitch, Gonzalez drew a walk and Bright did the same.

The lead was short-lived as Hawk junior shortstop Brady Doran (Greenville, S.C.), the team's number nine hitter, hit a three-run homer to right in the sixth inning.

The 6-6 tie was broken in the final inning of the seven-inning contest with both Hawks runs scoring after two were out. graduate third baseman Salvatore Pezzolla (East Greenbush, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch and Elmore followed with an RBI single.

Bentley, outhit 9-3, saw graduate right-hander Jimmy Hodgson (Newton/Newton North HS) strike out a career-best ten in 5.2 innings.

The two teams will complete their four-game weekend series Sunday at 1 pm.
