Bentley Uses 14-Hit Attack to Defeat Caldwell, 12-6

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Veterans Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS), Charlie Auditore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) and Liam Sears (Springfield, Mass./Pope Francis HS) each had three hits and junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett Reg. HS) drove in three runs as Bentley University doubled up Caldwell University, 12-6, in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at the Santaluces Athletic Complex.

Down 4-3 midway through the fifth inning, Bentley seized control with a six-run bottom of the fifth. Junior shortstop Joe Boushell (Mansfield, Mass./Wheeler School) led off with a single, Halloran doubled to left and after a hit by pitch, junior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) drew a bases loaded walk to plate the tying run. Halloran, a graduate center fielder, scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Beauregard.

The inning continued with another bases loaded walk, this one to junior third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS), and a two-run single by sophomore second baseman Jackson Walonis (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS). Rizzuto scored the final run on a wild pitch.

Bentley made it 10-6 with an RBI single by Sears, a senior left fielder, in the seventh and completed the scoring with a two-run double by Beauregard in the eighth.

The Falcons (3-9) scored twice in the first inning, including an RBI triple by freshman DH Alex Bodnar (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) for his first career hit.

The top three in the lineup scored seven times with Halloran crossing home plate three times and both Bodnar and Zupkus twice.

Freshman righty Marc Cedrone (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Bros. HS) pitched the first five innings and earned his first collegiate win. The save went to graduate right-hander Sean Mahan (Woburn, Mass./Matignon HS) following four innings of relief. Both struck out three.

Bentley is back in action Wednesday at 11 am, taking on Felician University at Little Fenway in Delray Beach, Fla.
