Assumption Hands Bentley 6-2 Loss in Rubber Game of Series

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – A trio of Assumption University pitchers, including right-handed starter James McNamara (Westford, Mass.), limited Bentley University to five singles and led the Greyhounds to a 6-2 win in non-conference baseball at Lake Brantley High School.

It was a 1-1 game after Bentley scored in the bottom of the second inning. Graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./ Hopkinton HS) drove in junior third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS) on a single to center.

Assumption (2-1) regained the lead, this time for good, on a two-run homer by sophomore DH Owen Podolec (Berwick, Maine) in the third.

The Greyhounds added to their offensive total with single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.

Bentley's second run came in the eighth when the Falcons took advantage of two Assumption errors.

McNamara, in his six innings of work, yielded five singles, walked one and struck out four.

Assumption finished with 10 hits, including two apiece by right fielder Emilio Acosta (Cromwell, Conn.), shortstop Jake Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass.), center fielder Connor Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) and second baseman Jack Barry (Bridgewater, Mass.)

Bentley stranded 12 runners on base and were just 1 of 14 with runners in scoring position.

The next game for the Falcons is Friday against Stonehill College at Rollins College.
