Six-Run 7th Propels Bentley to 10-2 Win over Assumption

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Graduate lefty Jared Brooks (Hollis Center, Maine/Cheverus HS) pitched seven quality innings and his teammates supported him with a six-run seventh inning as Bentley University defeated Assumption University, 10-2, in non-conference baseball Friday afternoon.

Brooks, in his first appearance of the spring, allowed three hits, walked five and struck out seven. He was down 2-0 two batters into the game, following a home run by freshman DH Sean Moynihan (Middleton, Mass.), before blanking the 0-1 Hounds the rest of the way.

Following the early deficit, Bentley battled back with single runs in the second and fourth innings. Junior shortstop Joe Boushell (Mansfield, Mass./Wheeler School) had an RBI double in the second and junior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) led off the fourth with a home run to left.

After Assumption went to the bullpen, Bentley broke the deadlock with six runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore second baseman Jackson Walonis (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) had a two-run double, graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) followed with a two-run single, senior DH Liam Sears (Springfield, Mass./Pope Francis HS) plated Halloran with a double and Sears scored on a grounder to short.

Bentley (1-3) picked up some insurance in the eighth on a two-run triple by junior third baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett Reg. HS).

Everyone in the Bentley lineup had at least one hit with Walonis, Sears and sophomore left fielder Joe Cacciatore (Lexington, Mass./Lexington HS) each having two. Halloran, Sears and senior catcher Charlie Auditore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) all scored twice.

The three-game series continues with games at noon Saturday and 11 am Sunday, both at Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
