Bentley Improves to 7-3 with Sweep of St. Michael’s, 18-4 and 7-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman center fielder Joe Cacciatore (Lexington/Lexington HS) drove in four runs and scored three times, and graduate pitcher Paul Frisoli (Watertown/Arlington Catholic HS) pitched seven quality innings, as Bentley University scored in six different innings for an 18-4 win over St. Michael's College in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon on DeFelice Field.

Bentley completed a sweep by breaking a 2-2 deadlock with three runs in the sixth to take the seven-inning nightcap, 5-2.

The Falcons, who extended their winning streak to four, improved to 7-3 overall and NE10. St. Michael's fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 conference.

In the opener, Bentley put up crooked numbers in five of the first six innings. Coach Bob DeFelice's team scored twice in the first, three in the second, five in the fourth, two in the fifth and another five-spot in the sixth.

Eight of Bentley's 14 hits were doubles, including two apiece from sophomore right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) and Cacciatore.

Cacciatore had two-run doubles in both the second and sixth innings. He finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI.

Five of Bentley's runs scored on sacrifice flies, including both in the first with sophomore third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont/Belmont HS) and graduate first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury HS) going back-to-back.

Senior catcher Charlie Auditore (Walpole/Walpole HS) had three hits and the Falcons also received two apiece from Zupkus, senior shortstop Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) and Berardino.

Frisoli scattered five hits and struck out eight batters. He was supported by the Falcon defense turning four double plays.

Game two was tied at 2-2 after two innings with Auditore drawing a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and a Zupkus sac fly plating freshman second baseman Jackson Walonis (Walpole/Walpole HS) in the second.

It stayed that way until the sixth. Zupkus singled and scored the go-ahead run on a two-out double to left by Rizzuto. Later in the inning, Rizzuto scored on a wild pitch and junior left fielder Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) had an RBI single.

Senior righty Evan Christopulos (Andover/Andover HS) went the distance on the mound for the Falcons. He allowed four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series on DeFelice Field Sunday. Due to the forecast, the starting time has been moved up until 10 am.
