5 Hits by Hopkins Powers Bentley Past Bloomfield, 13-6

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Senior shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) had five hits, 12 total bases and four RBI as the Bentley University baseball team finished the Florida portion of its schedule with a 13-6 win over Bloomfield College in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Little Fenway.

Hopkins' effort included an RBI double to right in the first, a leadoff double to left in the fourth, a home run to left in the fifth, a two-run single in the eighth and an RBI single in the ninth. It raised his batting average 76 points to a team-best .362.

The game was tied at 5-5 before Bentley erupted for eight runs on five hits, three hit batters, a walk and an error. After a walk, an error and a hit by pitch loaded the bases, freshman right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) trotted home with the go-ahead run when senior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) was hit by a pitch.

The inning continued with Hopkins' two-run single, a two-run triple by graduate third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater HS), an RBI single by junior DH Charlie Auditore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) and a two-run double by Zupkus.

Bentley pounded out 15 hits with Pierce 3-for-5 with two runs scored and both junior second baseman Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) and senior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) each having two.

Senior right hander Will Rossiter (Granite Springs, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic HS) gained the win with three-innings of three-hit relief. He allowed one run, walked three and struck out three.

For Bloomfield (1-8-2), senior right fielder Darwin Tavarez (Garfield, N.J.) was 4-for-5 with two runs scored.

With the Northeast-10 Conference suspending athletic competition due to COVID-19, this was Bentley's final game until at least April 13.
