Bentley Capitalizes on Stonehill Error to Gain a 3-1 Win

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Graduate right fielder Austin Farry (Watertown, Mass./Watertown HS) and junior second baseman Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) scored unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh as Bentley University defeated Stonehill College in non-conference baseball action Friday night at the Santaluces Sports Complex.

In the decisive inning, with two outs and the score even at 1-1, Bentley loaded the bases on back-to-back singles by Farry and Halloran, along with a walk to senior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS).  A pop-up off the bat of freshman DH Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) was dropped, allowing Farry and Halloran to score.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the third with Troiani scoring on a single to left from senior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS), the second of his three hits on the night.

An RBI double by Stonehill senior first baseman Rob Duarte (Raynham, Mass.) in the fifth inning accounted for the Skyhawks' only run of the night and evened the game at 1-1.

Senior righty Will Rossiter (Granite Springs, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic HS) pitched the final two innings for Bentley to save the game for graduate righthander Ryan Corriveau (Milton, N.H./Nute HS), who stranded two runners on base in the Stonehill half of the seventh. Rossiter walked one and struck out three.

Graduate righty Paul Frisoli (Watertown, Mass./Arlington Catholic HS) pitched the first six and a third innings for Bentley, striking out eight.

Bentley outhit the Skyhawks 8-7 with three hits from Figueira and two from Troiani. Sophomore shortstop Noah Lucier (Sandown, N.H.) had two for Stonehill.

Bentley will be back on the same field Saturday for a noon doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College.
