Grover, Johnson Recognized by Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior right fielder Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./ Rocky Hill HS) was named the first Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the 2017 following his strong showing in a three-game series at the University of Tampa over the weekend.

Also recognized by the conference, as the NE10 Pitcher of the Week, was Falcon sophomore right-hander Greg Johnson (North Reading/North Reading HS).

During a three-game season opening series at No. 2 Tampa, Grover put up a .400/.500/.800 slash line with two RBI, two runs scored, a double and a homer. He had two hits in each of the last two games, and in the second, helped Bentley knock off the Spartans, 7-6 in 11, with his two extra base hits.

The third-year starter has career totals of six homers, 40 RBI, 40 runs scored and a .402 slugging percentage in 75 career games.

Johnson earned the victory in the extra-inning win over Tampa with four scoreless innings. He scattered three hits, struck out three and allowed only one of three inherited runners to score before stranding the bases loaded in the 8th.

Last season, Johnson appeared in eight games, finishing with a 6.62 ERA in 17.2 innings of work.

Two other Bentley players were named to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts, sophomore center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) and junior righty Llewellyn Jensen (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little HS).

Troiani was 3-for-6 in the season's opening series, including an RBI single in the 11th inning of game two to give the Falcons the 7-6 win. In that same game, Jensen gave the Falcons four scoreless innings of two-hit relief. He walked one and struck out one while holding the Spartans to a .154 batting average.

Bentley returns to action with a three-game series at Rollins College Feb. 17-19.
